New middle and high school fair in Brooklyn today

Students without placements or unhappy with school assignments in Brooklyn can attend the DOE's new school fair today at Brooklyn's Borough Hall from 4-7 p.m. New middle and high schools with open seats in Brooklyn will attend the fair; students can apply on the spot.

Although students citywide are invited to attend, today's fair is only for Brooklyn schools. A similar new school fair will take place in Queens later in the month.

There are some new elementary schools opening in Brooklyn, which you can find in a PDF here.

The elementary schools at Brooklyn, by my count, are Brighter Choice Elementary School, Brooklyn Brownstone School, the General D. Chappie James Elementary School of Science and Young Scholars' Academy for Discovery and Exploration.

You may also have charter school options. The NYC Center for Charter School Excellence lists those schools by borough here.

Hope this helps! Thanks for the question!

At the fair, officials did not have plans for a Manhattan fair, but that's not to say it won't happen. There are some exciting schools opening in Manhattan, however, and I would study the list I linked to in my comment above.

We will have an update on the new school fair(s) in next week's alert. If you're not signed up for our bi-weekly alert, then please click here.

Thanks again for the comment!
