G+T Wait: The Beat Goes On, and On, and On

Another long week for plenty of New York City parents, waiting for the DOE to deliver on their promise of g+t letters out "this week," per their home page Spotlight a couple of days ago (but now removed).

Many commenters have written in (understandable) frustration, and we and others have had word that letters will either go out today or "as soon as possible" -- which might mean today, and might not. In a DOE committed to accountability, the protracted wait and increasing delays carry a particularly sharp sting. But it also makes sense, given the pre-K experience, that they're taking their time on this round of letters: Wouldn't you?

Still, it's hard to know what to say to parents who plead, 'we met our deadlines -- where's the DOE?' And harder still to be those parents, waiting, checking mail daily, and increasingly doubtful that the process, as established, will work.

I spoke with the G&T office this morning and they confirmed letters are going out today.

Have we given up altogether on finding out when the D1 gen ed lottery results will be sent? In addition to the endless wait for K G&T, the D1 lottery (how hard could that be??) has not been sent. Any update there?

Hi, I haven't seen anything regarding the pre-k mess for days. Any news on that front? The sibling-family rejections made in error -- any movement? Supposedly sibing families had until today to "appeal" but no one's sure where to appeal to, and families still have heard nothing in response to their e-mails.

Yes, it is going on, and on and on....
Any chance getting mail today?
Or is it officially a next week gig?
(Now DOE removed the banner saying "parents receive the placement this week".)

Regarding comments above, we've not stopped asking about D 1 lottery information, but are not getting good information (or much info at all), so there's little of substance to post -- but rest assured, yes, we're still asking, and yes, it's really hard to understand what the big delay is here. On g+t letters, today seems to be the day, but I haven't yet confirmed that ALL letters will go out (waiting for an official response). On pre-K appeals, the appeals process was via OSEPO (yet again) and DOE says they are contacting families with sibling-priority questions. If you believe your child wasn't placed in pre-K and should have a seat, and the DOE's not responding to emails, make some noise: Go to your OSEPO boro office and/or call your city council member to enlist help.

Regarding the Pre-K SCANDAL: In my experience sending out masses of emails to head OSEPO people, and also CC'ing all your correspondences to your councilmember, Joel Klein, staff at OFEA (Office of Family Engagement and Advocacy, Public Advocate's office, Borough President's office etc. will do the trick (later rather than sooner, but nevertheless...).
My experiences with district OSEPO offices is that they don't know anything, and will most likely tell you that even though you were rejected with sibling pref, you will have to go through 'round 2' on June 23rd. bacause that's what they've been told to say -- that's simply not true!
Even if it's later than the appeals deadline (June 13)- keep on appealing! They made it extremely hard my making the appeal accessible only online.
The first wave of Pre-K acceptance letter for rejected siblings went out on Tuesday eve/Wednesday morning via email. We got our hard copy acceptance letter in the mail today -- good news for us!
But I have to say, there are still Pre-K rejected children with siblings in the schools, and they have still not heard....
It is infuriating for all of us, and there needs to be at the end of all of this, some kind of accountability hearing with the DOE. They have a few Questions to answer to...
