Pre-K round II: News?

A number of parents have been wondering whether others in the city have heard any placement news on their child's round II pre-K application.

DOE said they'd let folks know by now (mid-August), but many don't have news yet. To connect with other pre-K parents, visit our forums, click on the pre-K thread, and join the conversation. And let us know, please, where the news has arrived -- and where it hasn't.

Update: We heard from DOE; they will snail-mail letters to families next week.

Its just nightmare, its Aug 18th and no news at all on round II acepatnce letters, You can NOT even call main office as they refuse to help you, all they keep saying is tomorrow, tomorrow ... I don't understand, I thought education of our kids is biggest priority of all, guess not, city just do not care. 2 weeks until schools starts and some of the parents, like myself, are just sitting and wondering when we will in fact know anything so we can start registration and school shopping... I HOPE that there is any way to put this on NEWS all around the world, so other parents can see what parents in NYC go true... VERY SAD...

Yeah, remember when all the G & T letters went out by courier a couple months ago? My kids are now on vacation until school starts. Haven't received a letter from OSEPO re my oldest's Placement Exception Request or my youngest's PreK Round II. OSEPO in Brooklyn told me they weren't handling Round II, while my neighbor told me they thought they could give her a spot. Why does G & T always get white glove service???

Anon. from 11:24 again. OSEPO at Tweed told me people should start receiving their Round II letters at the end of the week.

Re my Placement Exception Letter. OSEPO in Brooklyn says Tweed mailed them. OSEPO at Tweed says Brooklyn handled it. I pointed out the inconsistency here & now Tweed says will look into & get back to me.

If you are still waiting to here about placement for Sept. & you are going on vacation make sure you call OSEPO & give them your vacation address so they can courier the letter to you. Then you can come back from ASAP so you can register child.

It's sad. I requested an out of zone school because my zone school is TERRIBLE. Now I need to know because if he does not get into preschool and full day then I have to send him to Catholic school. This requires a registration fee and spaces are limited. I have to suck it up and pay the fee to hold my son's spot. Its really inconvenient. I need to arrange for pick ups, change my work schedule, buy uniforms if necessary etc. This is really bad and they wonder why NYC Board of Education sucks. If this is how they operate what does it say about the education they provide our children

It's Aug 19 and I'm still waiting to hear about my oldest's placement in upper elementary for G&T. The Parent Engagmt Rep I just spoke to said all the noise I heard in the background was the mailing going out TODAY for K-5 G&T placements. I hope it's true.

We all just have to be very patient and hope that our selection of school is what we receive.

can someone please explain what is meant by "Tweed?" Thanks.

"Tweed" is the old Tweed Courthouse building, now home to the DOE central staff. The street address is 52 Chambers in Manhattan, directly behind City Hall.
