G+T Placements Out Soon
From the DOE, "All parents will receive their G&T placements later this week," in line with their planned early-June timeline.
Parents concerned that their child's application may not have been received can call OSEPO or their local borough enrollment office to inquire, but expect voicemail and be prepared to follow up.

helen,
Thank you for the info. I'll post back when I get THE letter.
Did they say they would go out in any order? Sibs, 99s, 98s, etc?
Thanks Helen! I am assuming they didn't give you answers to any of our other questions such as number of applications, number of 99s, how many they are overaccepting, what they are doing with seats that get turned down, etc.?
They didn't give particulars, and as far as I know, don't mail out results by category (sibs, scores, etc.). We will try to get application numbers, after the admissions dust settles. (Moot for this year, good knowledge for next.) Realize that schools factor in the prediction that a certain number of offers will be declined -- so 'unfilled' seats are likely to be few, come September. (Some schools wait-list, others use open spots to advance high-achieving mainstream kids during the academic year. No across-the-board, standard practice, to my knowledge.)
Has anyone heard about D3 lottery results yet?
We just got a letter today with a D3 lottery number, but no placement information. It said it was confirming "your child's participation in the District 3 Kindergarten Lottery being held on June 5, 2008." And that we will be notified by mail of the outcome.
Helen, Do you know if we will be obligated to go through with registration once we accept a placement, or can we change our mind before the registration deadline?
D3 lottery happened last Thursday, with most siblings (all?) getting first choice school. After about 25% of the way through the non-sibling D3 list, very few children were being placed, so you needed to be high on the list to get your choice.
One interesting point about the lottery is that it is nice that it is public, but in fact they do all of the randomization beforehand, so you really have no idea whether it is fair. (Once the numbers are picked the school assignments are completely determined). I have no reason to think that it wouldn't be fair, but the way they do it you just can't tell.
Thanks for the D3 lottery replies. That is pretty funny that we receive the lottery number after the lottery has taken place without any placement information. Does the DOE try to complicate things and waste money with repetitive mailings? Supposedly, the MSC deadline is this Friday - I guess it can't be the same for the others.
Has anyone been notified verbally of the results of the D3 lottery or does everyone wait for the notification by mail from the DOE office? In other words, has my son been unsuccessful because I haven't heard anything/had a phone call since the lottery happened on June 5? Thank you for your help.
Good question about D3 lottery. Last year they posted the placements online so you could just look and see if you were lucky enough to get a seat. Another example of fine communication from the DOE.
What about district 1. We haven't heard a word and we are the only district without a zoned school. We are freaking out 2x, the wait for G and T and the wait for Gen Ed.
I completely agree on the D1 post above! We are also awaiting gen ed D1 and the G&T lotteries. Every time I speak to D1 (literally for 2 weeks straight) they say "it's in the mail". When is it in the mail? Why haven't we heard yet?
Did anybody receive a letter yet?
[-]From DOE website homepage: We know that parents are anxiously awaiting letters from the Office of Student Enrollment regarding their children’s placement into gifted and talented programs. We are in the process of verifying student information on all applications submitted. All families will receive placement letters this week. For more information on gifted and talented, pre-Kindergarten, or middle school admissions, click here.

I just received an email from G&T saying letters were going out in the next 7 -10 days.
To 12:03 PM: How can that be? Their own website says that families will receive them this week!
Anonymous at 12:03 - who e-mailed you? I'd like the name. Thanks.
Helen, could you please check with your contacts at OSEPO to verify the email described by 12:03pm? This appears to directly contradict the message currently posted on the DOE website about receiving letters this week. Thanks!
hi, Hellen
do you know usually how long DOE will give us for registration(G&T)? If we receive the letter later this week, when is possilbly the deadline of registration? I need to schedule a trip (work) in June or July, and really want to know. Thanks a lot
I just spoke to someone at DOE who also said that they're still putting the placements together and that the letters will go out in 7-10 days. She said that if I haven't received anyting by June 20th, I should call back. I expressed concern about schools closing on the 26th so not much time for registration and she said that I shouldn't worry because the oweness would not be on me. So I guess the DOE must have a plan to deal with the registration situation??? At any rate, I plan to get myself to the school to register my son as soon as I get the letter ... because you never know with the DOE. Let's just pray it comes before school closes.
helen,
On your site's forum, I read somebody's comment saying that "letter would be mailed by Friday, and parents would be receiving it next week." Is this true? DOE's website still says we'll RECEIVE letters this week.
All these making my days a hell. Please, please find out what is REALLY going on. Please!!
