Admissions Catch-Up

With news reaching parents on g+t kindergarten placement and middle schools, some of the furor of the past week or so seems to have fizzled. But confusion persists in some quarters -- the News reported that some students have gotten letters meant for other children, and we've heard that up to 50 rising 6th graders at Manhattan's coveted Anderson School received middle school placements at other schools-- even though they didn't apply for seats outside their home school, which continues to grade 8.

We're hoping for follow-ups from the DOE today on lotteries in Districts 1 and 3 -- and for additional illumination on the District 15 middle school placements, where overwhelming demand appears to have cost some students their first-round seats (or seats at the schools of their choice). It's great news that so many strong, local schools generate such robust demand -- but worrisome that the same schools can't absorb the entirely predictable flow of in-district fifth-graders seeking seats.

Helen-
There is a poster on the forums who says she was told by Nikki Rosen that placements wouldn't be mailed until Friday. Can you please confirm one way or the other? That definitely contradicts the "news this week" info from the DOE. We are all going crazy here. It is "graduation" from pre-K and my child is the only one who doesn't know where he is going next year! It makes separation from pre-school that much harder for him when he doesn't have something specific to look forward to like other kids. thanks

No G&T placement of 1st Grade placement in Queens in mail yet this morning. Since DOE website now says on its toppage, "All families will receive placement letters this week," I would assume that they are pretty much done with preparation to send out the letters, and actually send them out by mid-week (maybe today?), so that everybody will receive it by the end of this week...I really hope we will get it tomorrow.

The G&T don't appear to be out and all of our e mails to DOE go unanswered. Is there not an actual individual assigned to this at OSEPO whom we can speak with to avoid a catastrophy before the actual notice comes out? We are in District 22
