Some middle school decisions out now
Parents are reporting that they've started hearing back from citywide middle schools. They've heard — as have we at Insideschools — that districts will be letting students know where they've been accepted by the end of this month. Does anyone have any other information to share? Good luck to all!

I emailed the middle school enrollment office (OSEPO) and they confirmed today that letters for district schools would be sent by the end of this month. So I guess that means by next Friday the 30th.
I had the same email exchange with OSEPO. They must be getting sick of it but could have avoided this by using the schools as a channel for more efficient communication. Honestly, I think they're more overwhelmed by this task and the G&T placement rather than somehow maliciously changing notification dates. The unfairness charge I see in both forums should really be reframed as inconvenience. It sucks that the process is taking longer than anticipated. There's a steep learning curve here for DOE taking over processes that were school-based. They thought they could do it better and, most importantly, more fairly. I do note that Anderson (and Nest?) have been allowed to retain control of communications at least. Those letters are out. Why not Delta and other selective programs? Mott Hall?
Yes. Sigh. If schools like Delta and Mott Hall are still getting to pick their students, and they still know which students ranked them first choice (both of which were confirmed to me by schools and DOE), WHAT is the point of DOE controlling the sending of the notification letters, when these schools gave their lists in to DOE in mid-April? I hope that if OSEPO gets enough parents emailing them to bug them re notifications it will at least motivate them to get a move on.
You say some middle school decisions out now but when I read the posts no one said that they had received a decision. Please clarify.
Posts elsewhere on the site state that letters have been received from Anderson and some outer borough programs. See the Forums.
Anonymous 3:00: It seems that the citywide schools (the ones that take kids from all over the city, which I presume means testing/auditions) have sent out their notifications, but the notifications for district schools (the schools that only take kids from their district) are being handled by the Dept. of Ed, and as usual, they're taking forever to do it. :P
I have a question: when DOE says they're sending them out at the end of the month, HOW are they sending them? Will the notifications be delivered to the school the same day? Or are they being MAILED, which means another week of waiting?
Per DOE email reply I got, notifications are being mailed directly to parents.
Thanks for the info, Anon 8:21!
Parents received NEST+m acceptance and wait list letters today.
As a parent of a 5th grader, I can say, without a doubt, that the NYC middle school application process is just terrible for the kids and their parents. The DOE has done a super crappy job of streamlining the process. If parents are notify at the end of May, or early June, when do the kids go through round two of the application process? This year, parents have no other options for their kids. You can't apply to private school in June. Is the DOE really trying to get rid of the middle class in NYC through the middle school process...it might just work.
